30 years in power, museni wins again

Uganda has being under the leadership of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the last 20 years. Museveni won the general elections early this year with a vote of 61% of the total cast votes. According to the constitution of the republic of Uganda, a candidate shall not be declared elected president of that country if the votes are not in favor of the candidate. A candidate has to obtain the highest number of votes casted. The constitution also provides that if a candidate fails to get the expected percentage of votes, a second election should be held within 30 days after the announcement of results.
The same constitution also allows one to hold office for more than one term as it is in most of the democratic countries. A person can be a president more than one time; he or she can vie for the presidential seat after completing the first term of five years. 48hours from the closure of the of the polling that the electoral commission should declare the president through writing and publish it with its seal. The president should assume office within 24hours from which the term of the predecessor expires.

Uganda elections were held early this year on February and Museveni emerged as the winner over his opponent Kizza Besigye Kifefe who is the leader of opposition in that country. Besigye denounced the results of the elections claiming that they are the most fraudulent electoral process ever in Uganda. Kizza Besigye since then has received torture from Yoweri Museveni’s government for not accepting defeat; the opposition leader has not enjoyed any peace since then for months now because he had been detained with his soldiers surrounding his homestead. Besigye has also being arrested several times. Besigye was the personal doctor of Museveni thereafter and he seems to be a threat to Museveni and his government since he knows all the weaknesses of Museveni in terms of health and therefore I would say Besigye is not fit to be YOweri Museveni’s opponent. Since a person knows all your weak points in any way, you are not supposed to be enemies since he or she can bring you down easily.

After the elections were held in Uganda and results were out, Kizza Besigye and Mbabazi who is another presidential contester went to the supreme supreme court to challenge the results of the elections. They claimed that the elections were not free and fair because the citizens had to wait for more than five hours queuing to cast their votes. The elections were delayed which is an extra ordinary thing because I don’t think most democratic countries will accommodate for that. The social media was also closed down and there was no communication going on in Uganda. The citizens and the media were denied their freedom to express their views with other people, that is a fact which only exists in non-democratic countries not a country like Uganda which is democratic.
Just recently,a video surfaced on the social media platforms with pictures of Besyige being sworn in presided over by his party members and his supporters keenly following wearing bright faces which might be symbolizing brighter days for Ugandans  i future but we don't know. This happened just a day from when the official inauguration ceremony of his excellency was to beheld.

It is rather unfortunate that Besigye voted and later arrested for trying to access command center in Naguru neighborhood of Kampala. Even though the opposition leaders are always seen to be against and opposing the government, they are also leaders and if the other side of the government is not exercising its rule properly, the opposition side should be given the priority to rule.

TRUMP TO CLASH WITH CLINTON

ed to unify the fractured Republican Party following a bruising primary season, as he declared the battle for the White House starts now against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Trump's path to the GOP presidential nomination is clear after his commanding victory in Indiana's primary Tuesday pushed remaining challengers Ted Cruz and then Ohio Governor John Kasich out of the race.
Their capitulations brought the curtain down on one of the most contentious and chaotic nomination battles in generations, in which Trump pummelled no fewer than 16 rivals into submission.
"Now we'll unify the party," Trump, 69, told Fox News. "We're going to get people together."
But with unfavorability ratings among the highest of any modern presidential candidate, and concern within his own party about his temperament, the real estate mogul swiftly sought to assuage concerns about how he would govern.
"I know people aren't sure right now what a President Trump will be like," he told The New York Times.
"But things will be fine. I'm not running for president to make things unstable for the country."
- 'They loved me' -
Trump also began discussing the idea of his possible running mate, telling ABC News he wanted "a person with political experience" to compliment his own business acumen.
Names being tossed around included Senator Rob Portman of critical swing state Ohio, and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
Trump himself said he could consider Kasich, a former congressman who helped balance the federal budget, as his vice presidential pick.
Bowing out on Wednesday, the Ohio governor grew wistful about the thousands of Americans he met on the campaign trail.
"They loved me, they encouraged me. The people of our country changed me... with stories of their lives," he said.
Just as Trump seized the GOP mantle, a new CNN poll emerged that highlighted the formidable challenge facing him.
It found Clinton, hoping at 68 to become America's first female commander-in-chief, leading the tycoon 54 percent to 41 percent -- her largest lead since July.
Nevertheless, the former secretary of state suffered a shock loss in Indiana to her challenger Bernie Sanders, who has pledged to remain in the race until the end despite an extremely steep hill to climb.
Clinton has amassed 2,217 delegates -- just shy of the 2,383 needed to secure the nomination, according to a CNN tally. Sanders is at 1,443.
- 'Loose cannon' -
With the matchup essentially set, several prominent Republicans are refusing to support Trump in November despite his status as the presumptive nominee.
Those refusals highlight the continued tensions within the GOP, which has been at a loss to describe the stunning ascent of a brash billionaire who was given no chance of winning when he launched his campaign last June.
"If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed... and we will deserve it," tweeted Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump rival whose campaign fizzled.
Like Trump, Clinton was already pivoting to the general election.
"He is a loose cannon, and loose cannons tend to misfire," she said on CNN.
"He makes these grand statements and grand accusations," she said. "At some point when you're running for president you actually have to put a little meat on the bones."
Her campaign released an advertisement mocking Trump's claim that he will unify the Republican Party, airing a collection of video clips showing his former presidential rivals and other prominent Republicans denouncing him in withering terms.
The former reality TV star is "the most vulgar person ever to aspire to the presidency," says Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who dropped out of the race last month.
Trump dismissed Clinton's criticism along with concerns about his unfavorability ratings, saying his campaign had attracted millions of supporters to the Republican Party.
"Hillary will actually be easier to beat than many of the senators, governors, etc. we were just victorious with," he told NBC.
- Voters 'chose another path' -
As Tuesday's contest in Indiana was called overwhelmingly in Trump's favor, Cruz conceded to supporters in Indianapolis that he no longer had a viable way forward.
"We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path," he said.
It was a stunning denouement for the 45-year-old arch-conservative Texas senator, who had insisted he would press on to the final day of the Republican race.
Having amassed 1,053 delegates, Trump was already close to reaching the magic number needed to avoid a contested party convention in July.
"I believe Donald Trump will ultimately get chosen," Republican National Committee chief Reince Priebus said in an extraordinary embrace of a candidate the establishment had fought tooth and nail to stop.
"We need to get behind the Republican nominee."
Trump is pushing ahead with his campaign to reach 1,237 delegates nevertheless, heading to West Virginia to hold a rally on Thursday evening.

PROTEST BY MALI ISLAMIST OVER FRANCE FORCES

Demonstrators stormed an airport runway in northern Mali on Monday to protest against arrests by French forces of people suspected of links to Islamist militants who operate in the region, local officials and witnesses said.

Security forces fired warning shots and teargas to deter the mostly female protesters in the town of Kidal who also ransacked and set fire to airport facilities, said a local official, witnesses and the U.N. mission in Mali, MINUSMA.
The protests appear to mark a deterioration in relations between foreign forces and the local community in Kidal, a town at the centre of a separatist movement and violence by Islamist militants, some of whom are linked to al Qaeda.
One person died and six were injured, said Ahmoudane Ag Ikmasse, who represents Kidal in the national assembly. Ikmasse said he was in the capital Bamako but was in contact with people in Kidal.
A doctor in Kidal’s health centre said two died from gunshot wounds.
It was not clear why the airport was targeted or why women were the main participants in the protest.
The U.N. mission was not immediately able to confirm the death toll and it was not clear how many people were involved in the protests. A French military spokesman declined to comment.
“MINUSMA is contact with the Malian authorities and leaders of local communities as well as those from civil society, aiming to ease tensions and understanding the circumstances of the events,” the mission said in a statement.
MINUSMA and French forces have been stationed in northern Mali for about three years since separatists joined jihadists to seize the region from the government in Bamako.
Although France drove jihadists out of key towns in 2013, they have regrouped. In November, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb attacked a luxury hotel in the capital, killing 20 people and demonstratin

HAITI DECIDES

Haiti's tortuous election process looks set to drag on after the interim president said Wednesday the second round of presidential voting will not take place before his term ends in mid-May.
Jocelerme Privert was elected interim president of the troubled country on February 14 for three months to oversee the run-off of presidential elections, as well as partial legislative and local elections.
But Privert told a press conference that election authorities needed more time to audit the results of the parts of the vote that have already taken place, signaling yet another delay to a process that was supposed to usher in a fresh chapter in the poorest country in the Americas.
"The Electoral Council believes it will publish an election calendar between May 15 and May 31," Privert told reporters.
Haiti has been in deep political crisis since the December runoff between then-president Michel Martelly's favored candidate Jovenel Moise and opposition flag-bearer Jude Celestin was called off.
The suspension followed violence and opposition protests by demonstrators alleging that foul play had helped the government candidate take the first round in October.
The last-minute deal that saw Privert step in for the outgoing Martelly set an election date of April 24, but officials have already ruled out hitting that deadline.
